Air Inlet Cooling Nozzles for Turbines and Compressors

Industrial spray application guide

Air Inlet Cooling Nozzles for Turbines and Compressors

Air inlet cooling nozzles create droplets intended to evaporate before sensitive downstream equipment. The design must use actual ambient conditions, airflow and available residence distance; unevaporated water carryover is a key constraint.

Engineering focus

What the spray system must accomplish

Cooling potential changes with temperature and humidity. 액적 크기, nozzle placement, water quality, control response and shutdown protection must be considered as one system.

Inputs required before selection

  • Airflow, 온도, humidity and seasonal design case
  • Available evaporation distance and velocity profile
  • Water quality and permitted carryover
  • Flow turndown, control logic and instrumentation
  • 연결, installation space and maintenance access
  • Required documentation, test method and acceptance criteria

Comparison

Practical nozzle starting points

Nozzle approach 유용한 시작 조건 What to verify
High-pressure hydraulic fog Fine droplets without compressed air Requires suitable water quality and pressure
Air-atomizing spray Wide control range and fine atomization Adds compressed-air demand and controls
Multi-nozzle staged array Variable load or nonuniform duct profile Needs distribution survey and staged logic

Review method

How to move from requirement to a defensible selection

  1. Define the process envelope. Record normal, minimum, maximum and upset conditions rather than one nominal point.
  2. Choose the spray function. State whether the job is coverage, impact, atomization, evaporation, gas–liquid contact, washing or cooling.
  3. Check distribution in the real geometry. Review spacing, 겹치다, obstructions, wall contact, drainage and access.
  4. Validate materials and maintenance. Consider corrosion, erosion, solids, 여과법, cleaning and replacement intervals.
  5. Set an acceptance test. Use an observable measure such as coverage, 흐름, temperature profile, 압력, droplet data or process result.
